Culinary Arts Program
Welcome to Culinary Arts with Mrs. Bakewell!
Welcome to the Culinary Arts program, where learning meets creativity, teamwork, and fun! Mrs. Bakewell brings years of culinary, military, restaurant, and educational experience to the classroom with the goal of helping students discover their potential both in and out of the kitchen.
A retired United States Marine Corps Food Service Specialist, Mrs. Bakewell’s passion for cooking began at the age of four while growing up in the deep bayous of Louisiana. Coming from a family that valued cooking and gathering in the kitchen, she developed a lifelong appreciation for food, culture, and the joy of creating meals for others.
Mrs. Bakewell holds an Associate Degree in General Studies from Central Texas College, a bachelor's degree in business administration and psychology from the University of Maryland, and a master's degree in educational and clinical counseling from Azusa Pacific University. She also brings professional restaurant experience from running a successful restaurant in Guam, where she developed her culinary skills and appreciation for diverse cuisines.
Since 2014, Mrs. Bakewell has shared her culinary knowledge with public high school students. She also served as an FCCLA advisor for three years, helping students develop leadership, teamwork, and real-world skills.
More Than Just Cooking
The Culinary Arts program is designed to give students practical skills while encouraging them to think creatively and have fun in the kitchen.
Students will have opportunities to:
-
Learn essential cooking and kitchen skills
-
Explore different foods, flavors, cultures, and cuisines
-
Develop creativity and confidence through cooking
-
Practice teamwork, communication, and problem-solving
-
Learn the importance of kitchen safety, organization, and responsibility
-
Discover potential careers and opportunities within the culinary industry
-
Develop life skills they can use long after high school
Mrs. Bakewell believes that there is no single “right” way to be creative in the kitchen. Students are encouraged to experiment, try new things, learn from mistakes, and develop their own culinary style.
The Goal
The goal of the Culinary Arts program is for students to leave the classroom with more than recipes. Mrs. Bakewell wants students to leave with confidence, creativity, practical life skills, and a willingness to try something new.
Whether students dream of becoming professional chefs, working in the hospitality industry, owning a restaurant, or simply becoming more of a confident cook at home, the skills they develop in Culinary Arts can serve them for a lifetime.
Cooking is an essential life skill—but it can also be a way to express creativity, connect with others, explore diverse cultures, and simply enjoy the process of creating something from the ingredients in front of you.
Come ready to learn, create, experiment, and have fun!
